Fake Checks
The most common scam that is working right now is through the fake checks. This is a common employment scam where you are contacted through one of the many job sites and told that the company needs a payment processor.

You are told that you will receive checks and money orders and you will have to cash them and then keep ten percent and wire the rest. Turns out that the checks are fake and you are on the hook for the money.

Overpayment
Then there is the overpayment scam. You are trying to sell something on the internet. You are contacted by a person who wishes to buy the item and is sending you a check. Well when you get the check you see that it is for an amount that is well above what you were asking.

When you contact them you are told to wire the balance to a foreign country as soon as possible along with the item. Again, the check is fake.

Credit Cards
Finally you will have the chance that the item you have sold is paid for with a bad credit card number. It is best to always wait to send out an item until the payment has cleared. This can take thirty days but it is well worth the effort. Because you do not want to be on the hook for any bogus credit card charges. You could end up in trouble if you are not careful.
