The new advances in technology have largely allowed for people to learn about things that they never knew existed. However, there are times when this new technology is approached from a platform of saving money and allowing for new things to be made into a new system.

This is the idea behind Second Life. Second Life is a virtual world where people can go and interact per say. Many people have described it as the ultimate in social networking.

The ability to interact through a virtual world is a new concept that has played on the desires of people to be able to meet with people in a more complex way.

This is also the idea behind being able to remain in an anonymous state. You are using an avatar which is really nothing more than a computer generated version of yourself.

Many choose to build their avatars in such a way that shows who they are, others prefer to do so in a more fictional point of view.

However, Second Life has recently become home to a new version of an old concept, the job fair.

Several large companies have chosen this virtual platform as a way to make sure that they can meet with the most qualified candidates with out having to worry about money being spent on travel and so on.

Being Appropriate
When you are going to take part in a Second Life job fair you need to make sure that you are acting as you would in any regular job situation.

While Second Life is the place for the free spirit and all that, you do not want to go into a job interview with an avatar of a demon or large gorilla. You need to be proper.

So you should be sure that you are choosing an avatar that is much like yourself. If you are not a tall man then you should not be portraying your self as being seven foot tall.

All of the things that would be in place with a live interview should be there to make sure that you are giving the proper impression the first time.

You also need to be aware of the clothing choice. Because there are many jokers out there in the Second Life world, you are able to dress in just about any fashion that you want.

However, if you are going to be meeting with a company like Microsoft then you should be dressed accordingly.

Don't Expect too Much
While many companies are using the Second Life platform for the ease of use do not expect too much. You will most likely be asked for a live and in person interview if they have liked you at all.

This is due to the fact that the large companies are not going to hire based on an avatar and instant message.

All in all Second Life has proven to be a very viable option for the companies that are seeking new employment. However, you should not put all the stock into this position as it is still fairly new.
